Conserve Gas by Way of Your Car A/C

Here at the Miami air conditioning experts, we know that air conditioning isn't just for your home or office--it's for keeping you cool on the go as well. However, recent gas price hikes have made us all pay attention to how much we are consuming--and how to cut back. In your car, cutting the a/c usage can save gas. But without the a/c cranking...how to stay cool?

The key isn't cutting air conditioning usage entirely, it's just about using it smarter.  Use it sparingly, and always utilize the economy or re-circulation settings to ensure your car is using the more efficient manner of auto a/c service. These settings reduce the amount of outside air that gets pumped in and therefore also cooled.

While is certainly gets hot here in Miami, there are days (like today!) where rolling down the windows and taking advantage of a free windy breeze can also be cooling.

What it Means to Go Solar

While you may hear chatter of solar upgrades and solar rooftops, you may not know what going solar is really all about--or what it entails. That's why we have decided to help explain it! Here at the Miami air conditioning experts, we want to make sure our neighbors are informed of current technology and its benefits.

For example, did you know that you don't have to buy solar equipment--you can lease it. Leasing it eases the purchase price of $25,000+ to something much more reasonable.

A huge plus of solar products? They not only conserve energy, but they can seriously cut down your utility/electricity expenses.  Another key aspect to cutting bills? Exercising energy conservation. Ask your friends at Edd Helms about making your air conditioner more energy efficient--and decrease your carbon footprint!

Before There Was Air Conditioning

Have you ever wondered how people made it through the heat without today's modern technology? Without air conditioners, freezers, and other cooling-off techniques?

Well, turns out a lot of thought went in to staying cool. Every thing from the construction to the location of a person's home (at least the upper class) was carefully planned to maximize cool weather. For example, homes were built with eco-friendly materials that changed with the seasons--warming in the winter and cooling in the summer. There were also copper pipes throughout the house pumping cold water to cool through the walls.

Also, areas of the house were specifically open to flowing fountains, water gardens and other cooling effects. Time was also spent in pools and large outdoor baths. Aside from the main homes, pavilions were built in openly airy spaces to maximize cross breezes and often located near bodies of water.

As for the lower classes, they stuck to hanging in the shade and also dipping their feet in water wells for little jolts of cold. Most medieval buildings, such as forts and even jails, had open windows to allow for air circulation.

Understanding Your A/C

Sometimes, there's questions about your air conditioner that you can't quite figure out. Understanding how your air conditioner works is vital to caring for your air conditioner and also to prevent air conditioner problems. For example, this interesting question was circulating the internet:

"My husband and I are at odds over the temperature of the air that blows out of our air vents. He thinks that if you lower the temperature on the thermostat, the air blowing out of the vents gets colder. I think the air temperature stays the same, regardless of the setting. Who is correct?"

In fact, lowering the temperature of the room does not change the temperature of the air. It simply makes the air conditioner run longer to cool the room/home/office to the desired temperature you've set.
